Lifestyle & Living Conditions

Swedish Elkhounds have the energy and endurance for any job they’re given. Without a job, these large dogs require extra activity and access to a large outdoor space. They particularly thrive in country and rural environments. While they might not be great playmates for other dogs and pets, Swedish Elkhounds are gentle companions for children.

Exercise & Activity

Swedish Elkhounds make great companions for a variety of different activities. They will trek through woods on a hunt. They will race alongside you on a daily run. Swedish Elkhounds have dense, dark gray fur. They have a double coat that protects them from harsh elements. This also means that they have twice the fur. It’s recommended to brush Swedish Elkhounds every few days to remove dead hair and reduce shedding.
