Pugapoo Complete Breed Guide

Combine the charm of a Pug with the friendliness of a Poodle, and you have the Pugapoo. These little dogs can be a mixed bag in terms of personality and looks, but most of them are known as affectionate pups that love being a member of the family.

Pugapoos combine Pugs and Poodles, which are both loving, people-oriented breeds. Although the Pugapoo’s demeanor and looks will differ based on their genetics and surroundings, most of these dogs are family-friendly pups that just want to be pals. They’re usually great with children, dogs, and cats, but some of the negative traits of each parent breed may appear too. For example, if the Pugapoo is more Poodle-like, they may bark a lot, and if they're more Pug-like, you may be in for a loud snorer. No matter which side prevails, you can expect these dogs to be cuddly companions that will be your best friend ‘til the end.

Lifestyle & Living Conditions

Both Pugs and Poodles get along well with children, making Pugapoos good family dogs. They are smaller, though, and should be watched around babies and toddlers, who can sometimes be too rough with them. Pugapoos are the perfect size for apartments and smaller homes. They need to live inside, be around people, and be treated as part of the family. If there are other dogs and cats around, the Pugapoo will probably get along well with them, although they may be prone to barking if the Poodle genes are more prominent.

Exercise & Activity

Pugapoos have pretty low activity needs. They adapt to their family’s lifestyle, so if the owners enjoy taking a nice walk or playing in the yard each day, the Pugapoo will be happy to join in. On the other hand, if the family is more low-key and prefers to take it easy, this pup won’t complain.

It’s difficult to predict exactly how a Pugapoo will act because of their mixed genes, but most of these dogs are loving, kind, and social. They prefer being around people and want to be the family companion. If their Poodle genes are stronger, Pugapoos may be quite vocal, so be sure to train them when it’s appropriate to bark and when it’s not.

The Pugapoo’s coat will vary depending on whether they have more Pug or Poodle characteristics. Poodle-like coats are curlier but don’t shed as much, while Pug-like coats are shorter and may shed more. Either way, these dogs will be fairly low maintenance when it comes to grooming and shouldn’t need more than a regular brushing to keep them looking good.
