Lifestyle & Living Conditions

These dogs aren’t best suited for life with young, clumsy toddlers, but they do alright with older, more respectful children. They can also learn to live with other canines if they are raised together but don’t always share space will with kitties or other pets.

Podenco Canarios have a high amount of energy. They love to hunt and are happiest when they are hot on the trail of a rabbit or other small, furry critter. You’ll want to take them for daily walks or jogs, but be sure to keep a firm grip on the leash. Sometimes they can be a little aggressive toward strangers, but with early socialization around people, this is usually not a problem.

The short, smooth, dense coat of the Podenco Canario is very easy to maintain. They don’t require much grooming at all, but it’s best to give them a brushing about once a week to help remove dead hairs.
